World number one tennis player, Maria Sharapova, had to bury her ambition to win a second Wimbledon after falling from Sabine Lisicki 4-6 and 3-6 in the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2012, Monday, July 2, 2012.
This was the first victory over Sharapova Lisicki from four matches. Last year Sharapova, who won Wimbledon in 2004, successfully overthrowing the German tennis player in the semifinals.
"It was incredible. For the third time I beat French Open champion at Wimbledon. I am very pleased. I lost in three previous meetings against Maria. Now I play well and beat him for the first time," said Lisicki as reported by Reuters.
Four-times Wimbledon champion, Serena Williams, also ensured the quarter-finals after overthrowing players with Kazakhstan Yaroslava Shvedova 6-1, 2-6 and 7-5. Serena will next face defending champion, Petra Kvitova, a win over Francesca Schiavone 4-6, 7-5 and 6-1.
